A withdrawn announcement was quoted
as the company's current statement.

Consider a listed company that withdraws a regulatory announcement and issues a corrected one the same day. The original stays online on the company's site and on the distribution services that carried it.

AI, asked what the company announced, quotes the withdrawn original as the company's statement, and finds the correction without selecting it.

01What happens.

An announcement is distributed to many places at once and withdrawn from few of them. The withdrawal notice is a separate document, and nothing inside the original says it has been withdrawn. A machine reading the record finds the original, finds it repeated, and finds a correction it has no reason to prefer.

02Why it matters.

If you are the company secretary, the withdrawal you issued was correct in form and was accepted by the regulator. The market's machines did not receive it in the same way. The original, which you withdrew because it was wrong, is the version now served to anyone who asks, and it carries the company's name and the date it was issued.

Each investor who acts on the withdrawn statement has acted on a document the company issued and later withdrew, and the company is explaining a correction that the record has not caught up with.

03The case.

This illustrative scenario is written from the mechanism; no company is identified. The announcement in the scenario is a UK regulatory news service announcement; the same mechanism applies to announcements in other jurisdictions under their own rules.

A listed company issues a regulatory announcement on a Tuesday morning. Within 2 hours an error is found in a figure, and the company issues a withdrawal notice and a corrected announcement. The regulator's process is followed in full, and the corrected version is the one on the results page, and the withdrawal is on the record.

The original is also on the record. It is on the regulatory news service archive, where withdrawn announcements remain visible with a notice. It is on the 4 financial news sites that republish announcements automatically. It is in the email alerts sent to subscribers in the first 2 hours.

It is in an analyst's note written before the correction. An investor asks AI what the company announced on Tuesday. AI finds the original in 6 places and the correction in 2, and the original is identical to itself in each place while the correction is a different document.

AI quotes the original and states the figure the company withdrew.

The investor acts on the figure. Another investor, asking a different tool, receives the same figure from the same 6 places, and a third receives it from the analyst's note, which nobody has corrected because the analyst has moved on. The company secretary, told by an adviser that the wrong number is in circulation, checks the results page and finds the corrected announcement exactly where it should be.

The company had done the right thing in the right order. What it had not done, because nothing in the process asks for it, was to consider how a withdrawn document reads to a machine. The machine cannot see the withdrawal notice from inside the document, and it finds the document repeated across the web with nothing in it to say it was withdrawn.

04Exposure.

The board answers for the disclosure record, and a withdrawn announcement is a statement the company issued and later withdrew. Quoted as current under the company's name, it is a position the company has already said was wrong, still in circulation with the company's authority on it. That is the board's position, whatever its advisers conclude about the facts.

The cost is the correction, made to each person who acted on the withdrawn figure, and the adviser and regulator conversations that follow. The cost that lasts is confidence in the company's announcements, which is discounted when a withdrawn statement can be quoted as current a week after the withdrawal.

05What AI Readiness changes.

From the inside, the correction is on the results page and the matter is closed; where the withdrawn original still lives, and how far it outweighs the correction, cannot be seen from there. AAAnow reads the company's digital landscape as AI reads it and evidences each copy of the original AI is drawing on, on the company's own properties and beyond them, and how the correction compares. With that evidence the company can decide how withdrawals and corrections are published so that a machine reads the original as withdrawn, and check the record after the next correction.

Your team makes the changes; AAAnow provides the assessment, the evidence, the guidance and the review.
