The use cases · Listed companies

Investors were quoted guidance
the company had already revised.

Consider a listed company that revises its full-year guidance at the half year. The original range, issued 6 months earlier, stays online in the trading update, the investor presentation and the news sites that carried it.

An investor asking AI for the company's guidance receives the superseded range as the current one, and the company finds itself explaining a position it has already moved away from.

01What happens.

Guidance is issued once and repeated many times, in the release, the presentation, the webcast transcript, the analyst notes and the news coverage, while the revision is issued once. The earlier range outnumbers the later one across the record, and a machine weighing the record by volume and authority returns the earlier range.

02Why it matters.

If you run investor relations, the number the market holds is the number AI returns when asked, and AI is now asked before the release is read. A superseded range quoted as current puts the company in the position of appearing to have missed, or walked back, guidance it had already revised in the proper way.

The explanation has to be made to each person who asks, without implying that the investor should have known better. The investor asked the question in the ordinary way and received a confident answer under the company's name.

03The case.

This illustrative scenario is written from the mechanism; no company is identified.

A listed company issues full-year guidance in a Jan. trading update: a revenue range and a margin range. The update is published on the regulatory news service and the investor site the same morning. It is presented at a capital markets event, carried in the investor presentation, quoted in analyst notes and republished by 3 financial news sites within the hour.

At the half year in Jul. the company revises the range downward, citing currency movements. The revision is published in the half-year release, stated on the results call and reflected in the new presentation. The Jan. update, the Jan. presentation, the Jan. analyst commentary and the news republications stay online, because nothing about a revision removes what came before it.

In Sep. an investor asks AI what the company's guidance is for the year. The answer is the Jan. range. It is drawn from the documents that state it in the most places, most clearly and with the most links pointing to them, and none of those documents says it has been superseded. The Jul. revision exists as one release and one presentation, and against the Jan. record it loses on volume.

The investor, comparing the Jan. range with the consensus, concludes the company is set to miss, and calls the investor relations team before the market opens. The team explains that guidance was revised in Jul. The investor asks why AI does not know that.

The team has no answer, because from the inside the Jul. release is the current one and the Jan. documents are history, filed and finished with.

The same conversation happens with an adviser the following week, and with a journalist the week after. Each time, the company is explaining a revision it made properly, and each time it sounds like a company managing expectations after the event.

The record, left as it was, is doing the company's talking.

04Exposure.

The board answers for the disclosure record, and the superseded guidance is part of that record. A superseded range in circulation as the current one, under the company's name, is a position the company has to correct in public. The correction reads as a change of guidance to anyone who did not see the Jul. release. The board is placed in that position whatever its advisers conclude about the facts.

The cost is the investor relations time, the adviser calls and the repeated explanation. The heavier cost is the impression, formed one conversation at a time, that the company's guidance cannot be relied on, when the company revised it in the proper way and the record outnumbered the revision.

05What AI Readiness changes.

What the company cannot see from the inside is that the Jan. documents are still answering for it. AAAnow reads the company's digital landscape as AI reads it and evidences which releases, presentations and republications AI is drawing on for the guidance question, and how each is weighted. With that evidence the company can decide how a revision is published so that the machine reads the earlier range as withdrawn, and check the position before the next revision goes out.

Your team makes the changes; AAAnow provides the assessment, the evidence, the guidance and the review.
