The use cases · Consumer brands

The product announcement was published, and the weight of the page kept AI from reading it.

In this scenario, a consumer brand announces a product change that matters to its customers. The announcement goes on a news page built for people: large, heavy, full of images, navigation and related content, with a few lines of the announcement itself. AI reads the page and misses the announcement in the furniture, and customers asking about the product receive the position from before the change.

The brand then buys AI visibility to fix its low visibility, without finding the cause, and amplifies the problem.

ExposureBrand and IP; cost and wasted spend

01What happens.

In this pattern, important product, corporate and investor announcements appear on pages designed for people, where the announcement is a small part of a large and heavy page. AI can miss it among the surrounding material. The superseded position, stated across many lighter pages, then continues to appear.

Recency alone does not tell a machine which source supersedes another.

02Why it matters.

The head of communications published the announcement and can see it on the page. The systems that should carry it as widely as possible did not find it, and the brand's customers are being told the old position by the systems they ask first..

The page works and the announcement is visibly present, so the publishing fault is easy to miss. If the brand responds by buying promotion or AI visibility work before identifying why the announcement was missed, the spend can promote the old position that machines are still reading.

03The case.

The brand narrative presented here is illustrative and identifies no company.

A consumer brand changes a product: a formulation, a compatibility, a warranty term. The change matters to customers who own the product, and the brand announces it on its news page with a short statement and a link to the updated support page.

The news page contains a large hero image, a video, a carousel of other stories, navigation, a footer, related products, a newsletter panel and cookie controls around short paragraphs of announcement. A person can find the announcement readily, but it contributes only a small amount of the page's machine-readable text.

Customers asking AI about the product are told the position before the change. That position is stated on dozens of lighter pages, the retailer listings, the old support articles and the reviews, and the announcement that supersedes them is one heavy page the machine has not weighted.

The brand notices that AI describes the product wrongly and reads it as a visibility problem. It buys a programme of content, promotion and AI visibility work to raise its profile. The programme produces more pages built the same way and promotes a product story the machines assemble from the old material, so the wrong position is now better promoted than before.

The cause was the page the announcement sat on, and nobody examined it, because the announcement was visibly there and the page worked for the people who checked it.

04Exposure.

The brand is held to what it published, and it published the change; what it could not do was get the change heard by the systems that now tell customers about its products. Customers acting on the old position carry the consequence: a warranty claim refused on terms the customer was told still applied, or a compatibility that no longer holds. The brand answers for a change it made and could not get across.

The programme's direct cost is the clearest measurable loss in the scenario. The wider consequence is that the work entrenched the position it was intended to replace. The listed company in the same position, with an investor announcement missed in the same way, meets the shareholder confusion (see use 32).

05What AI Readiness changes.

The announcement was checked on the page and never checked as the machines read it. Reading the brand's pages as AI reads them shows what the machine extracts from each announcement page, whether the announcement is carried or lost, and which older pages are supplying the position AI serves for each product. AAAnow provides that reading and evidences it before any promotion spend is committed.

On that evidence the brand publishes announcements in a machine-readable form, brings the older pages that state the superseded position into line, and checks what AI says about the product after each change.
