“Convergence” was exactly the right name for Wilson Elser’s event in New York City on 30 Sep. 2026, co-sponsored by Ankura and Privado AI.

It brought general counsel, cybersecurity leaders, insurers and other risk professionals together to examine where privacy, security and AI governance now meet. AI runs through the work of each of those groups, and it amplifies the decisions and risks they already share.

01The panel.

Matthew McQueeney joined the panel on how companies use AI, including in employment. For AAAnow, he set out an outside-in question.

What can AI actually find about your organization, and who is responsible when that information is inaccessible, inconsistent, or wrong?

02Why audit comes first.

The question goes to the 2 questions at the centre of AAAnow’s work. Is the organisation fit for AI visibility: found, read correctly, and represented in terms it would stand behind? And are its directors and officers becoming increasingly, and unnecessarily, exposed as AI grows?

As organisations move further into AI, audit is key. What AI repeats becomes the organisation’s answer, and the people accountable answer for it, so the liabilities and responsibilities of directors and officers now reach the information AI can find. An outside-in audit gives them an evidenced position: what AI can reach, how it reads it, and where the published record no longer reflects the organisation.

Monitoring governance from that position helps minimise the risks as the organisation advances and grows. For lawyers advising clients who are embracing AI, the same audit gives a factual starting point for that advice.

03With thanks.

The discussions were excellent onstage and off, and carried on into the evening at a well-curated midtown location. AAAnow thanks Jana Farmer, AIGP, CIPP/US, FIP, Partner at Wilson Elser, the fellow panellists, and the Wilson Elser team for a thoughtful event.
