# AAAnow: AI Readiness, outside-in

> AI Readiness, viewed outside-in, is how AI systems find, read, and represent an organisation from the public information they can access. An organisation's AI readiness is measured by what AI reads across the footprint it has built online over years, much of it forgotten, not by what it believes it presents today. AI Readiness is graded against the AI Readiness maturity model: a scale showing where an organisation stands on AI readiness, benchmarking the foundations first. AAAnow provides the first stage: continuous discovery and mapping of the digital landscape, delivering an evidenced position within 30 days for around two days of the organisation's time.

## Key facts
- 41% of an organisation's digital footprint is unknown to its own digital teams (P&C / Sitemorse risk profiling, 2017 to 2023, covering more than 119 million websites).
- 79% of misinformation or misrepresentation has the organisation's own online position as its root cause (AAAnow Research, Dec. 2023 to Jan. 2026; P&C (human misinformation) 2014 to 2023).
- Brand-owned sites are 5 to 10% of the sources AI search references in many categories (McKinsey).
- 85% of brand mentions in AI search come from third-party content (AirOps, 21,000+ brands).
- 57% of respondents cite AI errors, misinformation and hallucinations as the leading AI threat; 1 in 5 insurance industry respondents had a client experience loss from AI-related risks in the past year (Gallagher, 2026. AI Adoption and Risk Benchmarking).

## The Triad of Exposure
One unmanaged digital estate produces three connected consequences: misrepresentation and misinformation in AI answers; weakened future visibility and competitiveness; and a cyber surface outside monitoring and patching.

## The three stages of AI Readiness, in order
1. AI Foundations: the structural integrity of what AI can read. Begins with understanding the landscape: the scorecard is established with limited, secure access; colleagues add the sites they know; as an option, AI discovery finds what nobody remembered. An evidenced position within 30 days, then continuous.
2. AI Governance: information kept correct, current, and accountable over time.
3. AI Visibility: surfacing what has been built, once it can be read accurately and stood behind. Visibility applied before the foundations are confirmed accelerates the circulation of misinformation.

## Definitions
- AI Readiness: the outside-in view, how AI reads the organisation from public information.
- AI Readiness maturity model: the scale AI Readiness is graded against, showing where an organisation stands on AI readiness, benchmarking the foundations first.
- Discovery: the operational capability through which an organisation sees what is visible to AI across its external digital footprint. Continuous, because the footprint is not static.
- AI discovery (option): automated discovery of sites nobody remembered; an option, not part of the subscription.
- OVER|SITE: ongoing monitoring of sites on subscription. IN|SITE: on-demand assessment of sites as they are found.
